MUSIC THEATRE WORKSHOP for TEENAGERS

with ANNE-MARIE SPEED - PROFESSOR of VOICE on the Musical Theatre Course at London’s Royal Academy of Music, and Vocal Consultant, Acting & Dialect Coach in the West End, Theatre, Film & TV

A fantastic day: 14 young singers and additional observers enjoyed a day of singing & masterclasses, supporting and learning from each other in a specialist music theatre day. 

 Students learnt about the enormous range of musical styles of shows currently in the West End, Singing in Accents, Singing as a teenager, Vocal Health ~ what to do and what NOT to do! ~ and much more!  Ensemble work involved learning ‘Seasons of Love’ from the award winning hit Broadway & West End show ‘Rent’ and singing in 6-part harmony! There were also opportunities for singers to work on a song or duet of their choice individually with Anne-Marie in a supportive environment

 Anne-Marie was also assisted by young professional singer Alison Guill who has recently graduated from the music theatre course at the Royal Academy and who will be making her West End debut in The Phantom Of The Opera in September.  Alison sang a few songs demonstrating different vocal styles and also was spent much time talking to individual singers about her course at the Royal Academy, auditions and performance.

 MUSIC THEATRE GODSPELL   

 A day full of Singing & Drama ~ Devising & Improvisation ~ Dance & Movement ~ from the hit West End Musical by Stephen Schwartz (Composer of ‘Wicked!) Ensemble work included Day by Day & Light of the World and script work from this great show, together with devising scenes from some of the actual comic strips! 

SONG & DANCE / MOVEMENT for Ages 7 – 11

Working on songs including Zip-e-dee-doo-dah & Summer Holiday, and from shows Mary Poppins, Annie, Oliver, & more!

PIRATES DAY!!  Find the Pirate within!!  

Inspired by the Pirates of Penzance (& the Pirates of the Caribbean) we   learnt & staged the first 6 numbers from Act 1!  Not bad for a cast whose ages ranged from 3 to 16 !!! Special mention to our fantastic young Pirate King Louis O’Brien who had a particularly inspired costume!! Brilliant!

CIRCUS SKILLS for all!! - Ages 8 - 14

Clowning, Juggling, Balancing, Acrobatics, Dance, Mime, Animal Creation – Something for all ages, all abilities – Creative & Fun!

Singing ~ Drama ~ Devising & Improvisation ~ Dance

This was another GREAT day!  The very complicated opening number ‘You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown’ was learnt, staged, choreographed and performed, along with ‘Just One Person’, other acting senses from the show PLUS a few improvisations from a few comic strips, and a great dance routine to Happiness!  Brilliant!

AUDITION PRESENTATION, SONG & DANCE / MOVEMENT workshop & songs & dialogue from DISNEY SHOWS & FILMS, and THE SOUND of MUSIC

Ensemble work, Singing in Harmony, Solo Song presentation, Duets & movement skills – Ensemble, duet & solo music theatre songs were staged & choreographed including ‘Applause, Applause’.  Doe A Deer was learnt, choreographed and staged including dialogue from the stage show.  

Scenes from GUYS & DOLLS, SALAD DAYS & CHICAGO & SINGING STYLES & ACCENTS – WEST END / BROADWAY  – What exactly IS the difference?!  AND HOW do you MAKE the difference?!  

Another great day of Ensemble singing in American & English, solo song presentation, & movement skills–participants aged 8-18

POP VOCALS!  Do you have the X factor?!  Age 11 - 16

DISNEY DAY! - SONGS, DRAMA, MOVEMENT & more!

Especially for younger singers ages 8 –12 plus older soloists

Ensemble singing, song & duet presentation, & Movement & Dance.

This was a really packed day!  A great Dance Routine to ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ by 6 of our youngest participants.  This involved quite intricate choreography plus character work.  They also learnt & staged ‘A Spoonful Of Sugar’ ably led by our own Mary Poppins, Lucy Elbourne (Lucy is on a professional Dance Training Course at London’s Millennium Dance School).  We also had a Quartet version of Zip-e-dee-doo-dah, along with solos A Whole New World, Reflection, On The Good Ship Lollipop and Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  We also revised ‘Doe A Deer’ to finish our Summer School by ‘Starting at the very beginning….!

We will contine to invite more Professional Directors, Musicians & Dancers to lead workshops in the future.  We also aim to give young student actors, directors & students from national Theatre academies & Dance schools opportunities to assist and be available to share their experiences of auditions & work so…Watch this Space!
